One of the best things about this trip is that you get to experience a ton (and I mean A TON) of different languages and even more different types of accents. I've found that I love listening to eastern Europeans speak. It's crazy the sounds they can make with their mouths! I would have no idea how to even attempt half of them. I met a woman from the Czech Republic tonight and it sounds silly, but I just kept staring at her mouth. Language is such an awesome thing. What's cool too, is the way non-native English speakers form sentences in English. So far everyone has been very easy to understand, but sometimes the order of the words or the prepositions they use are not the way native English speakers would say it. It is also interesting when they do not know the word for something in English and they must find a way to explain it using other words. That goes for the reverse, as well. Sometimes they do not understand a word I say in English and I must find things that they do understand to show them what I mean. Language really does reflect a culture, because basically what you can say is what you understand. If there is no word for it, it is extremely difficult to wrap your brain around that concept.
Food for thought :)
