Dancing the Night Away

Tuesday I had one of the best nights here so far. Sarah and I decided we would go to the OSI Dans welcome back party. OSI Dans is the group that put on the free dance lessons last week that I went to. Each year they host a welcome back party for students and non-students alike (and you don't have to be able to dance). They started the part with two short lessons-english waltz and cha cha cha (so I know a bit of both), and then they basically just opened up the dance floor to whoever wanted to dance. They played songs from many different dance genres (?): waltz, tango, salsa (it seemed like a lot of salsa), swing. I thought it was going to be difficult trying to remember the little bit of the three dances I knew, and in reality I didn't do the best at any of them, but that didn't really matter. What does matter is I danced for four and a half hours and had the time of my life! I met a ton of really great people, and really fun dance partners! Some of them were dancing pros, but a lot of them had basic experience or relatively no experience (the no experience guys weren't that fun to dance with though cuz they're supposed to be the leaders-ya know?).  I picked up a little bit of salsa throughout the night, taught by a variety of guys who were looking for a partner and agreed to teach me. My favorite is by far rock step swing though. It's such a fun style to dance to! It made me even more excited to be taking the class this semester. And I was so proud of myself at the end of the night. Dancing with a bunch of strangers would usually be a bit outside my comfort zone, but I did a great job of stepping outside it last night. I woke up this morning still ecstatic about how much fun I had last night.

Besides the workout I got dancing Tuesday night, I also tried out the fitness center on campus. I went after my class ended at noon and it ended up being a pretty popular time to go, but I was able to snag an elliptical and get a good workout in. I had signed up to go to a Pilates class this morning before my Gender/Family course. That was fun. The instructor spoke only Norwegian which wasn't really a problem. It was kind of cool actually. You pick up how to count to eight really quickly. So a good start to the morning :) What came after was a bit of a buzz kill though. My Family/Gender class is quite boring. I'm really disappointed by that because it sounded like such an interesting class and it definitely could be, but it's definitely not. I feel drained when I get out of it.

I just came back from trivia night at the Kringsja pub. Our team didn't do so well,  but they have it every Wednesday so we have many more chances!
